Freshman Daughter of World Champion Mare Wins

Kountry Legacy represented her star studded mare well Monday, June 22 in Kentucky Sires Stakes action at Oak Grove. The daughter of world champion Shartin N rallied home with authority to win her division of the $40,000 division for two-year-old pacing fillies.

The stars were out for the Monday card in Kentucky with nearly all of the sports top drivers in the lineup over the rain soaked track. The area has been beaten up with storms over the past few days, dodging tornado activity in the process.

Kountry Legacy began from post two and had enough early speed to get out of the gate and secure the top spot early before Shezaloadedbet and Yannick Gingras took over at the quarter in :28.3. The tempo slowed just a bit to the half in :58.0 before action from the back of the pack began to prepare for the final stages of the race. While Bye Bye Beaches and Dexter Dunn were on the move to the outside, Kountry Legacy was flushed out first over heading into the final turn.

Once the field had reached the top of the stretch, Kountry Legacy took over and sped away from the field for driver Todd McCarthy, winning by four and one-half lengths in 1:55.1, a final quarter paced in :27.4. Shezaloadedbet finished second over Sangiovese Hanover and Andrew McCarthy for third.

Kountry Legacy was the favorite, paying $4.92 for the win. The freshman daughter of Capt Midnight, who is dual eligible in Indiana and Kentucky, is owned by Tom Pollack and Jeff Cullipher. Cullipher trains the filly, who was a $35,000 yearling purchase last fall from the Midwest Standardbred Horse Sale. Ola Yoder is the breeder on the filly, who was raised at Kountry Lane Standardbred in Wakarusa, Ind. and carries the farm name with her into her racing career.
